Kennaugh Fourth and First Yamaha Home
The ninth round of the Metzeler National Superstock Championship took place at the flowing Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire, where Hudson Kennaugh on his Carbon Can Company Yamaha took fourth place in a hard fought race and came home as top Yamaha finisher. The weekend got off to a promising start with Kennaugh heading first qualifying and maintained his front row start position on combined times, starting from fourth place. When the lights went out, Kennaugh made a good start but not in his opinion good enough, "I wasn't aggressive enough through turn one. Laverty got past me at Cascades, but I made up some places through Shell Oils and I got back past Brendan Roberts," he said. One lap later, Roberts made a break and got past Palmer which held up Kennaugh, who was finding it difficult to pass. "I was weak into the first corner but strong the rest of the lap, the only places were I could really pass were Hizzy's chicane and the last corner but I needed to be really close to make it stick," he commented. To add to the drama, the safety car came out mid race, but Kennaugh did what he could to use this to his advantage. Kennaugh said, "I held back and concentrated on keeping my tyres warm, which paid off when the car came in as I got a good start and drive through the corner." The riders in second, third and fourth were only separated over the finish line by 0.3secs, so it was a close call. "I'm disappointed not to be on the podium but we are once again the top Yamaha finisher, so it is not too bad," he concluded. There is now a two weekend break before the paddock resume their travels to Croft in North Yorkshire, with on track action from 11th - 13th August.
Kennaugh Ready For DoningtonAfter a disappointing start for Hudson Kennaugh on his Carbon cans Yamaha at the Brands Hatch season opener, he is determined to have a better result at round two at Donington Park this weekend. Kennaugh attended a track day at Donington Park last week, just to reacquaint himself with the circuit, "The track day was full of racers!" he said "Lots of Superstock guys and R6 Cup riders. Everyone has obviously had the same idea." The Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Championship is more competitive than ever this year and it has so many entries that two qualifying sessions are required. Kennaugh didn't have a good qualifying session at Brands and it was an up hill struggle until the chequered flag came out. "I need to qualify well otherwise you just get boxed in off the line, I need to get away with the front runners. I need to improve and my race result must be better," commented Kennaugh. The one advantage Kennaugh has this weekend is track knowledge having tested with the Rizla Suzuki team at Donington last year. "At Brands I was starting out from scratch as I didn't know the circuit and the British weather was causing chaos! This time round I know the track and I'm looking forward to improving my results," he concluded.
Steady Start For Kennaugh
Hudson Kennaugh on his Carbon Can Company Yamaha had a steady run at the second day of the Snetterton pre season BSB test. During the first on track session he was fastest with a lap time of 1min 09.597secs. The session saw him finish in sixth with a time of 1min 10.045secs. Kennaugh is looking forward to the new challenge of racing at Brands Hatch a circuit he isn't familiar with, but he is a fast learner and has a good team behind him who are all ready for an exciting season ahead. Round one of the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Championship takes place 24th-26th March at Brands Hatch in Kent.
10% OFF Power Commanders and Accessories!Power Commander Direct has one of the most advanced Dyno facilities available which is capable of testing all types of motorcycle. The computer controlled facility, housed in its own separate unit, is able to test to the highest level readings and shows maximum consistency, due to its built in weather station giving it the facility to give corrected BHP figures. The computer control means we can simulate a wide variety of racing conditions for both performance and durability development. The dyno can be used for running in newly built engines and for speed development. Via the instrumentation hooked up to the engine, we can assess any changes made in fuel and ignition timing and then tell whether those changes are providing more torque and horsepower. Basically, the dyno allows us to attain maximum performance from any particular engine combination. The dyno has assisted in the evaluation of different parts combinations. No more guess work: if somebody claims a new part gives them a 15% increase in power, we can check it out.
All customers who have had their engines set up on the dyno, have gone on to record their best ever lap times. What's the point in spending thousands of pounds on performance parts and equipment, only to leave the final set up of the engine to guesswork? At best, it may result in excessive fuel consumption - at worst, it could mean getting into an over lean condition, resulting in engine damage. All motorcycles tested on the Power Commander Direct dyno are provided with a printout showing BHP and Torque. THIS MONTH - 10% OFF Power Commanders and Accessories - Call 01253 877900 for details.
